Connecticut allows patients to access physical therapy without first obtaining a physician referral in many circumstances. Certain situations or insurance requirements may require additional documentation or physician involvement.
If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help you understand what applies to your situation.
-
Your initial evaluation is a dedicated 60-minute appointment. We’ll discuss your symptoms, health history, goals, and the activities that are important to you.
Your physical therapist will then perform a comprehensive assessment of your movement, strength, mobility, and other relevant factors. From there, we’ll explain what we’re seeing and develop a personalized treatment plan designed around your needs and goals.
-
Initial evaluations are approximately 60 minutes. Follow-up treatment sessions are generally 45 minutes, with focused 30-minute appointments available when appropriate for your plan of care.
-
Every patient is different. The number and frequency of visits will depend on your condition, goals, progress, and recommended plan of care.
We’ll discuss expectations following your initial evaluation and continually adjust your treatment as you progress.
-
Yes. We offer several treatment package options for patients who want to commit to their plan of care while receiving a reduced per-visit rate.
Your physical therapist can help you determine which option makes the most sense based on your treatment needs and goals.
-
Sound Movement is an out-of-network physical therapy practice. This allows us to provide personalized, one-on-one care based on what you need rather than allowing insurance restrictions to dictate your treatment.
Payment is due at the time of service. Upon request, we can provide documentation that you may submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement vary by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to understand your benefits.
-
Physical therapy services are generally eligible healthcare expenses for HSA and FSA funds. We recommend confirming eligibility with your specific plan administrator if you have questions about your coverage.
-
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and gives your physical therapist appropriate access to the area being evaluated or treated. Athletic clothing and sneakers are usually a great choice.

Please bring a photo ID, any relevant medical information or imaging reports you have available, and a list of medications if applicable. If you’ve received a physician referral or prescription for physical therapy, bring that as well.

Because every appointment reserves dedicated one-on-one time with your physical therapist, we kindly ask that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments, may be subject to a cancellation fee. This policy helps us respect our clinicians’ time while allowing appointment availability to be offered to other patients who may need care.
